Zodiac Wrap Up

"God said of the lights in the sky, 'Let them be fore signs and seasons'" Genesis 1:14

Every morning while I'm in the shower I listen to a Tony Evans podcast. He is a pastor in Dallas, Texas, and has an app called The Urban Alternative. He recently did a series on faith. In his sermon entitled, Slow of Heart to Believe Parts I and II  Link to the Podcast he talked about something that relates to the wrap up of this series on the Gospel and the Zodiac.
"What God wants to know after you have heard the Word is do you want Him? There's a disconnect in people's lives between Jesus on Sunday and the rest of the week... I am going to make a statement that may sound like heresy, but you will understand as we go along; the Bible is not enough. I believe in the inerrantcy of the Bible and that it is the Word of God from cover to cover. But like the pharisees, if you have the Bible and miss the Lord nothing will happen...the Scripture leads to a person, not merely data for the head. "
He then proceeds to liken seeing the evidence of God, hearing/reading His word, and feeling a tug on your soul to pursue what it means to follow Jesus like this:
"When you go to a restaurant, you go in and they hand you a menu. The menu gives you a written description of what the restaurant offers. Sometimes you can salivate just reading the menu. Not only do you have a written description of the items on the menu, but you have someone who does an exposition of the menu for you called the waiter or a waitress. They explain what is written so you can understand it. After you have heard the message proclaimed by the waiter about how good it is, you do not then say 'thank you' and get up and leave. The reason you don't say 'thank you' and get up and leave is because that's not really why you came. It's needed because you came, but it's not why you came. You did not come to read about food, nor did you come for someone to explain what was written to you. You came to experience what was written and explained in your taste buds. You came for a meal, not for a menu. You came for an experience, not just a smooth talking waiter. You came for the reality of what the sign says. Far too many of God's children are satisfied with the menu. Others are satisfied with the waiter who can explain what's on the menu. But that means if all you get is a menu, and all you get is a waiter, you will still leave hungry because you have not gotten what will satisfy. What will satisfy is a person (Jesus), not merely a page to be read, or taught, or explained."
I fell in love with this analogy and knew instantly it was meant to finalize this series.

The truth is we can read about all the fascinations and mysteries of science, the stars, the human body, etc. We can stand in complete awe of how minuscule we are compared to all that's outside of ourselves or all the information we have yet to learn. We see how God may have been trying to communicate a story to Adam before the Bible was ever written. But all of that is just knowledge and information until it leads us to the feet of Jesus, who He is, and what He is about. These posts weren't simply to explore ways to make us seem more intellectual as we make conversation with our friends. They were to bring us to relationship with a Savior who loves us enough to want to communicate truth to us any way He can.

I hope by reading through and exploring these constellations you were in awe of the One who made each star, but also formed you. The One who knows you intimately, yet holds everything together by His Spirit. The One whom you can't see, but you know is real. He is beckoning you to Himself, even through the mystery of the stars. Let's not just be satisfied with the menu. Rather, let the menu whet our appetites for more and more of Him. We cannot be satisfied where we are. We must continually choose to walk with Him to spite our "feelings."

Lord,

I am guilty of wanting information without wanting the Savior, and I'm sorry for that. The knowledge I have obtained about You means nothing unless it draws me closer to your heart and knowing you more. Please forgive me.

Help us to know you more with each passing day; not just to read about you, talk about you, listen to podcasts about you, and go to church to hear about you. Put a desire in our spirit to make your heart our heart, your ways our ways, and your thoughts our thoughts. Allow intimacy with you to strangle out any weeds of pride - the kind of pride that knowledge puffs up. This is harder for some than others. On one hand we are so fascinated by Your greatness that it brings us to our knees, but before our knees hit the ground we are calling everyone we know to tell them all the intellect we have obtained. Other times we find ourselves prone to worshiping the creation rather than the Creator.

May Your creation open our eyes to deep spiritual truth of your love, kingdom, and will which is being revealed on earth.

Thank you Jesus. It's in Your name we pray- Amen.
